Holy Trinity Classical Christian School seniors Sydney Lawrence, Caroline O'Neal, Morgan Chumney and Sarah are National Merit Scholarship finalists.
The students, who were named semifinalists in September, went through a qualifying process that includes providing their academic record, the school's curricula and grading system, PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index score, a written recommendation provided by their school, information about the student's activities and leadership, and the finalist's own essay in order to advance to finalist standing, a news release said.
Beginning in March and continuing until mid-June, more than half of the finalists will be selected to receive a Merit Scholarship award. All winners of Merit Scholarship awards are chosen from the finalist group based on their abilities, skills, and accomplishments.
“On paper, they stand out because of their exceptionally high achievements, but what cannot be seen on paper is their hearts,” Holy Trinity guidance counsellor Tara Gaillard said. “They have learned the Biblical truth that whatever they do, they do for the glory of the Lord. This principle will guide and direct them beyond the walls of Holy Trinity Classical Christian School and has prepared them to continually seek knowledge, wisdom, truth and beauty in the world around them.”
