The Boys & Girls Club of Hilton Head Island is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, so it’s only right the group recently was recognized for its longstanding community impact.
In February, the club was honored as Organization of the Year, the top honor given by the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce at the chamber’s annual ball.

Fourth-grader Parker Star thought he was in trouble several weeks ago when Okatie Elementary School’s principal walked into his classroom along with his parents.
But the news was all good: Star had been named as one of 15 finalists in the Beaufort County School District’s 2020 Sodexo Future Chef Competition. And Star outdueled the other finalists Feb. 17 at the Beaufort-Jasper Academy for Career Excellence to earn the cooking championship with his made-from-scratch zucchini-and-sweet potato “Harvest Muffins.”

To throw or not to throw? It’s the birthday party tradition you either love or hate. Normally, I love to throw a good party for adults. Wine. Hors d’oeuvres. You’re all set. But birthday party planning for kids adds an entirely different layer of pressure. For me, this is the part that can take the fun right out of the party. It is easy to get carried away, and what I have learned over the past few years of party planning is that simpler is better.
